Wildlife

What to look out for in Galloway...

Dumfries and Galloway is blessed with wildlife, thanks to the natural and rural landscape.  On Covenanters Cottage's doorstep it would be unusual not to spot red deer, hares, foxes, red kites, buzzards, and the endangered UK's native red squirrels that thankfully survive in southern Scotland because of the extensive woodland.  Wildlife lovers will certainly want to visit Galloway Forest Park.  Many species of flora and fauna thrive in this region, thanks to the milder climate brought about by the gulf stream.  It is worth mentioning that Galloway has an interesting coastline that will appeal to bird-watchers and marine wildlife enthusiasts.  Harbour porpoises, dolphins and even minke whales are among some examples of coastal wildlife.
